Title: Marine Maintenance Technician

Reports to: Director, Operations Support
Assignment Location: Sea Launch Home Port, Long Beach, California

Description of Position:

Operates, maintains, analyzes, produces and documents procedures and support systems for Sea Launch Pier Operations. Develops ideas, makes recommendations, performs tasks and supervises outside support.  Prepares documentation and generates reports that track systems schedules, budgets and deliverables.

Responsibilities:

The Marine Maintenance Technician principally provides daily operational and maintenance support to the Sea Launch Dock Master. 

  • Maintains various floating equipment, dock equipment and heavy lift vehicles. 
  • Evaluates functionality of various marine support systems and performs routine maintenance and repairs as appropriate, or as prescribed by the Dock Master. 
  • Performs vessel support functions in accordance with operational requirements and scheduled mission-related activities. 
  • Documents maintenance and support activities in accordance with requirements and Sea Launch procedural documentation. 
  • Assists the Dock Master by providing marine technical assistance in establishing maintenance programs, conducting surveys and inspections, developing budgets and validating procedures. 
  • In addition to the direct support of the Dock Master, the Marine Maintenance Specialist provides support to the Sea Launch Logistics fuels management focal in the daily operation and maintenance of naphthyl fuel storage and transportation systems.
  • Ensures compliance with all guidelines and regulations. 
  • Provides training, advice and instructions to contracted support personnel on Sea Launch systems.  

Specific Tasks to be Performed

  • Inspect the pier and support equipment on a daily basis to determine vessel support requirements. 
  • Organize equipment and support personnel to perform required marine support. 
  • Perform routine maintenance as required.
  • Operate boats, forklifts, man lifts and similar equipment in the performance of routine operations.
  • Coordinate movement of vehicles and personnel on the pier during critical operations. 
  • Ensure the safety of personnel and equipment during all pier operations.
  • Support vessel arrivals, departures and relocations.  
  • Coordinate and recommend mooring arrangements of the vessels.
  • Develop scopes and statements of work in order to perform maintenance and repairs of the pier, floating equipment and various other support equipment including IMO containers and truck trailers.
  • Supervise performance of outside contractors in vessel departures and arrivals, relocations and special evolutions; provide similar support for Naphthyl transportation and storage activities.
  • Operate to financial budgets for pier operations and naphthyl transportation and storage functions.
  • Provide cost-related information used in making design and support concept decisions by investigating and compiling data that identifies cost contributors and drivers for given systems.
    • Perform routine naphthyl transportation and storage support functions.
    • Develop support equipment and facilities plans by analyzing detailed drawings to determine handling, storage and transportation requirements.
    • Review, gather, compile, and process data through the use of appropriate personal computer software and hardware applications.

Qualifications and Skills: 

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience with product support or other technical/ administrative processes and procedures and experience in marine systems maintenance and operations.
  • A bachelor’s degree in an administrative or engineering discipline is helpful but not required.
  • Effective communications skills, computer skills and technical understanding of systems supported. 
  • Small boat handling and afloat vessel familiarization required.
  • Launch support travel at sea required.
  • Proof of evidence to work in the United States is required.

Title: Industrial Hygienist

Reports to: Manager, Campaign Operations Safety
Assignment Location: Sea Launch Home Port, Long Beach, CA

Description of Position:

  • Plans develops, promotes, advises, implements and assesses policies and procedures to achieve and maintain a safe and healthy work environment for ground operations performed at the Sea Launch operations facility and launch site. 
  • Provides regulatory interpretation, analysis and technical advice to management and employees
  • Evaluates the impact of emerging issues and regulations on company operations
  • conducts problem investigation,
  • coordinates resolutions to issues
  • ensures appropriate selection of control strategies and provides required regulatory reporting
  • Works with management, employees, occupational health professionals, suppliers, customers and regulatory agencies. Supports the implementation of the Sea Launch occupational health and safety programs
  • Develops and provides training as required

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree and typically 9-13 years related work experience, or a Masters degree with 7-11 years, or a PhD degree with 4-8 years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or possess a Resident Alien Card
