April 15 - After positioning the Sea Launch Commander in front of the Odyssey Launch Platform, operations to transfer the now fully integrated Zenit-3SL rocket get underway. |
The rocket rolls out of the assembly hall on the ship onto its stern ramp. The Russian and Ukrainian teams attach braces at two points on the rocket. Each brace has a cable connected to large cranes up above, at the bow structure of the Launch Platform. |
The cranes lift the rocket up into the hangar on the Platform, about 200 feet above the ramp. Then the rocket sits atop the massive transporter-erecter. During transit to the launch site on the equator, the rocket is positioned here, in this environmentally protected environment. |
