The transporter-erector moves the Zenit-3SL vehicle out of its protective hangar to the launch pad, on the Odyssey Launch Platform, under a gorgeous azure sky in the Port of Long Beach, California. Red stars on the erector commemorate all of the Sea Launch missions.

Powerful pneumatic pumps raise the rocket to a vertical position on the launch pad. (This image captured with fish-eye lens to accommodate the size of the rocket.)

With the rocket erect on the launch pad, the launch team will conduct a series of final tests, before departing for the launch site.

Looking out from the hangar, the rocket stands tall.
